PLM singkatan dari Product Lifecycle Management, system ini jauh lebih besar dari PDM. PDM adalah bagian dari PLM.
PDM singkatan dari Product Data Management, system ini digunakan untuk kontrolling semua data engineering baik itu CAD file maupun Non-CAD file.

Ada juga yang berpikir bahwa PLM adalah ERP masa depan, ya bisa saja. Namun disini saya membatasi PLM itu di bagian ENGINEERING, RnD, New Product Developmnet, QC, dan Produksi saja. Sedangkan divisil lain biasanya sudah ditangani oleh ERP dan atau SCM system.
